Justin Gall is an American designer who combines his strengths in human physiology, art, graphic design, and garment design to create the modern world of GALL. A rare breed of designer who takes pride in doing it all himself. From his modular design, to his abstract prints and graphics, to the finished product shots in each lookbook, which he styles and shoots himself. Working in this way— his vision and creations can travel a path of evolution and consistency without distraction or reliance on others. The brand was born in 2014 by it’s founders Justin Gall and Chaira Nardelli Gall, whom was born and raised in Rome. They’re a two person team, partners and side-fighters in life and business. The first GALL collection was entitled ‘Absterrestrial’ for the SS15 season.
The recent SS20 collection is entitled ‘NIHIL’— latin for nothing, which isn’t meant to be taken at face value. Nothing does exist, but also couldn’t exist without everything. You’ll find references attending to nothingness and existence within the graphics created by designer Justin Gall. His other artworks include all-over abstracts made with paint and drip-stain technics. These are made in stain-pink, cave-grey, and aqua-blue; and represent the original modernist camouflages which are cemented in every GALL collection. Alongside artworks and graphics you’ll notice Justin’s signature design aesthetic, which has been modular and technical since his very first collection. Detachable arm and leg units are present throughout, making outerwear and trousers customizable in an effortless way. Fabrics are built for comfort, durability, and protection from the elements – still taking into consideration a necessity of lightness for the Spring-Summer season. If you take a closer look at many pieces, you’ll discover mix-matching waterproof zippers, which bring another detail of complexity and thought to each piece. Encapsulating the current and futuristic world of GALL, where nothing is everything and everything is nothing.
